Motion Directors are a core component of our creative vision at Stereo. You are crucial to internal teams, new business, design output and project leadership at every stage.

You will balance the conceptual and aesthetic requirements of each job, always delivering emotionally impactful and culturally charged work. You will lead from the front and set the standard in the team for craft, ideation and presentation abilities.

You are a natural storyteller and understand cinematography principles (both 2D and 3D). You know how to make the most of any budget and champion the latest technological innovations to bring a project to life.

You are an experienced, confident leader and have a proven ability to build effective relationships that can drive projects forward.

Responsibilities

  • Create conceptually brilliant ideas, film narratives and animation concepts.

  • Deliver progressive and innovative motion design, executed at the highest level.

  • Independently develop concepts, treatments, storyboards and styleframes for all our clients.

  • Edit video-led projects and cut mood films for pitches and internal work.

  • Confidently present ideas and motion back to the wider creative teams as well as external clients and partners.

  • Keep up to date with the latest motion and design trends and champion new ways of working within the studio.

  • Act as a line manager to motion designers in the team. Assisting them with their own personal development, making sure they possess and develop the necessary skills, tools and processes to succeed in their own roles.

  • Confidently work across multiple motion projects on different timescales.

  • Have responsibility over your own workloads, managing your time effectively and delivering on time and within budget.

  • Set the standard in the department for levels of craft, attention-to-detail and ingenuity.

  • Give direction and provide feedback when working with external talents on motion projects.

Key skills & requirements

  • Be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge across 2D and 3D motion projects, from brand identities, through to animated promo and campaign films. 

  • At least 7+ years hands-on experience at a leading agency.

  • Strong experience using After Effects, understanding of plugins, effects and expressions and how to use them effectively across a range of motion outputs. 

  • Confident editing skills with Premiere, proficient in the usual design tools - Photoshop, Illustrator and Figma.

  • Fluent C4D skills preferably with Redshift.

  • A thorough understanding of 3D motion pipelines and integration into 2D work-streams.

  • Detail obsessed with a strong design background and awareness of current trends in both motion and design.

  • Knowledgeable on the fundamentals of great story-telling and how to apply to both film and motion briefs, and be comfortable expressing your ideas through storyboards and/or treatments.

  • Strong understanding of the importance of brand systems, tone of voice and guidelines.

  • Think big and small: show bold creative ambition but also obsess over the crucial details.

  • A team player who has the ability to flex and adapt their creative approach depending on the project scale and requirements.

  • Beneficial skills

  • An understanding of the editing/video post workflow.

  • A video production background and interest in campaigns and shoot production.

  • Keen interest in new motion technologies, particularly Unreal engine.
